Title: The Land of the Painted Birds
Rating: Free
Characters: Uruguay, cameos by Spain, Argentina and Paraguay, mentions of Brazil and Portugal. Oh, and a cameo by Artigas.
Warnings: Completely disregard of previously established fanom stuff. I mean it. Bizarro history, probably. Long author notes.
Summary: Sebastián thinks about names, and heroes, and his own identity as a new free nation.


A not so short explanation: You must have noted that many Latin kids are named after independence heroes. The explanation for that is very simple: those names are popular, they’re historically relevant, they’re awesome and it works. But it was a little weird, inside the story, so, back when we were voting, someone at some point said that maybe they had chosen it themselves. We talked about it for a while, explored the idea, played with it, and then, as the fandom grew larger, we eventually forgot it.

But not me. I still kinda like it, which is why I decided to finally write something about it. If you don’t agree, that’s fine. I hope you enjoy it anyway. ♥
